MODERN WITCHMODERN WITCH is an essay film that examines recent changes in Zurich’s Sihlquai neighborhood, where a residential building was repurposed for commercial use in 2021. The film uses the figure of the modern witch as a metaphor for local community engagement and resilience amid urban transformation. Through a combination of conventional video footage, animated sequences, and detailed 1:5 scale models, the project presents five new interventions—such as a beehive, chicken coop, fisherman’s hut, garden, and market hall—that integrate into the existing urban fabric. These elements aim to illustrate alternative approaches to urban development focused on collaboration and diversity. The film offers a reflective look at the relationship between community, space, and change.
